| port numbers failing on OSX host for XCN Server ("unable to connect to/find server" message ) |
| |
Port numbers are failing on my OSX installation for the XCN Server. ("unable to connect to/find server" message) What now? |

In 99% of all cases the default ports (80 and 10001) are fine and you should not have to make any changes there. The port number refers to the "port" on the XCN Server host computer that we will be communicating through.
Things to try (applies to OSX installations only):
1. Make sure that your "Sharing" is turned on... - go to "System Preferences" -> Sharing and make sure that "Personal Web Sharing" is checked. - select the "Firewall" tab -> New -> Port Name -> Other and add a port name "XCN" and the port number "10001".
2. Is it possible that you are entering the wrong IP address for your host computer?
To see what your IP address is for your host computer try the following different methods: - via a terminal window, enter "ifconfig". your IP address will be in the section starting with "en0" and the line item starting with "inet". - via your "System Preferences" -> "Network". You should see a line item noting you IP Address in the TCP/IP tab. |
